TRANSITION FOR TEENS (ages 16 and older)
Our Transition Program is designed to assist visually impaired teens to make a smooth transition from high school into adult life. The teens participate in groups, such as our Intensive Residential Life Experience (IRLE). Our Vocational Specialist works closely with the school IEP or 504 teams and with teens, parents and schools to receive direct one-on-one assistance. Some of the areas we address in this program are employment/job exploration, post-secondary education, independent living, community integration, self-assessment, and job skills development. As of 2007, 70% of individuals with visual impairments are unemployed. All students upon graduation will have a detailed plan including all necessary steps to successfully fulfill one of the following:
