Director of Adult Services

 The Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI) seeks a Director of Adult Services. VABVI is the only private, nonprofit, statewide agency, providing training, service and support to infants, children and adults of all ages throughout Vermont. The successful candidate will possess an education in Vision Studies and at least five years’ experience providing vision rehabilitation or related services to children and/or adults with vision loss. They must demonstrate the ability to support staff, direct the Adult Service and Volunteer Programs, promote awareness of services, build community partnerships, and assist in efforts to develop and maintain sustainable programs.

· Location: Preferred South Burlington VT, possibility of a satellite office

· Salary range: $75,000 to $85,000 depending on experience.

 Principal Duties and Responsibilities

· Assists the Executive Director in recruiting and hiring of Adult Services staff.

· Provides supervision, supports the needs of staff and reports areas of concern to the Executive Director.

· Conducts field observations of staff and keeps appropriate records.

· Coordinates Adult Services staff development.

· Writes individual written evaluations of staff members’ performance at appropriate intervals.

· Coordinates interactions with other service providers

· Stays current with regional/national trends and developments in the field of Vision Rehabilitation and advises the Executive Director relative to the potential implications and application of such developments on vision services in Vermont.

· Evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs and advises the Executive Director on the enhancement of services and development of new programs.

· Assists the Executive Director in reporting on the measurable outcomes of services provided to state, federal and community partners.

· Assists in the development of programs to increase community awareness of blindness and visual impairments through direct and remote mediums.

· Maintains a minimal caseload.

· Assists the Executive Director in locating candidates to serve on the Board of Directors in all regions of the State.

· Collaborates with the Director of development in finding success stories and content for social media, newsletters and other promotional/fund raising purposes.

· Collaborates with the Director of Children’s Services, DBVI and LEAP, relative to post-secondary transition skill instruction and effective transition planning for youth to adult services.

· Assist the Executive Director in the identification and establishment of sustainable funding streams for the adult and volunteer service programs.

· Perform other duties, as may be required from time to time.

 Qualifications:

· Master’s degree and five years of experience in rehabilitation and/or education in the field of blindness and visual impairment

· Demonstrates ability in personnel management, organization, administration, and program implementation.

· Experience in effective public speaking.

· Experience in program development and evaluation is required.

· Preferred: To maintain and submit proof of at least one certification in a related vision rehabilitation service for personnel file.

TVI Job OPENING

While living in a beautiful state with a great supportive group of TVI's you will work as an itinerant, full-time, TVI responsible for vision assessments, braille instruction, assistive technology, consultation to schools, families and other service providers. You will provide direct instruction in the areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum and in other skills related to working with children from birth through high school population with and without additional disabilities. For those who are dually certified as TVI/COMS this would also include O&M lessons for children.

·       $1000 in moving expenses with receipts

·       $2000 bonus for staying through the second year

·       $1000 bonus for staying through the third year

·       $700 annually toward professional development opportunities

·       $175 annually toward professional dues

·       Office space, laptop, and iPad provided

·       Mileage reimbursement

·       Mentoring from peers and director knowledgeable about blindness in addition to secretarial support

·       BCBS, dental and other benefits

·       Drivers provided for employees with visual impairments
