Director of Children Services

The Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI) seeks a Director of Children Services. VABVI is the only private, nonprofit, statewide agency, providing training, service and support to infants, children and adults of all ages throughout Vermont. The successful candidate will possess at minimum, a current state-issued License for a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairment (TSVI) and at least five years’ experience as a provider, ideally possessing experience in supervision and leadership. They must demonstrate the ability to support staff, direct the Children Services Programs, promote awareness of services, build community partnerships, and assist in efforts to develop and maintain sustainable programs.

• Salary range: $75,000 to $90,000 depending on experience.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist the Executive Director in recruiting, hiring, and providing ongoing professional development of Children Services staff serving clients from birth to high school graduation (TSVI, COMS, CATIS).

• Oversee and coordinate school contracts/billing for new referrals, caseloads, and conduct field observations/evaluations to support the needs of staff. Manage a minimal caseload as needed. Coordinate the annual Intensive Residential Life Experience (IRLE) camp and professional workshop offerings. Maintain appropriate records related to these duties and report successes and concerns to the Executive Director.

• Assist the Executive Director in reporting on the measurable mid/end of year outcomes of services to state, federal and community partners, as well as drafting the VT AOE contract application every 2-5 years.

• Assist in the development of outreach efforts to locate potential members to serve on VABVI’s Board of Directors, educate the community relative to blindness and low vision, connect clients with services, and secure sustainable funding through direct and remote mediums.

• Locally, collaborate with DBVI, LEAP, various statewide consultants, the Babies Count Registry and other partners to address the lifespan of client needs relative to Children’s Services in Vermont.

• Nationally, fulfill the duties of being Vermont’s APH Ex-Officio Trustee, participate as a member of COSB, VCSEA, and as the local liaison for UMass Boston Vision Studies Program. Attend conferences and stay current with trends to advise the Executive Director to the effectiveness of existing programs, and potential implications, modifications, or enhancement of current practices.

• Perform other duties, as may be required from time to time.

Qualifications:

• Upon request, proof of a master’s degree and five years of experience in the education field of blindness and visual impairment.

• Upon request, proof of current or easily renewable state licensure as a Teacher of Students with Visual Impairment. (The candidate will be required to maintain such licensure while Director of Children’s Services).

• The candidate will demonstrate ability in personnel management, organization, administration, and program implementation.

• The candidate will demonstrate experience in effective public speaking.

• The candidate will demonstrate experience in program development, documentation and evaluation.
