White Cane Day events are scheduled in the following places:

Rutland

Location: Rutland High School, Drivers’ Education class  *This event is not open to the public. 

When: October 15, 2025

For Drivers education students only. There will be a power point presentation about White Cane Awareness, experiential practice with white canes while blindfolded and Q&A.

Burlington

Location: Innovation Center, 128 Lakeside Ave. Wednesday, October 15, 11:30am – 1pm

Join us to discuss the history and importance of the day, complete a community walk nearby, and enjoy refreshments provided by the Innovation Café.

Saint Johnsbury

Location:  Father Lively Center at 506 Summer St., please arrive a little before noon. The event ends at 2pm.

This event is open to the public. The walk will begin around noon. The walk route is down Main Street through the intersection of Eastern Ave. and back down Main Street to the Center. We will briefly stop to get lunch for those that have ordered ahead at the Eastern and Main market and Deli. There will be finger foods available at the Father Lively Center. After/During lunch we will have a discussion time to share experiences with each other.

Barre

Location:  Barre Aldrich Public Library, October 15, 2025 @ 12:00 to 1:00 PM

Open to the public. 

There will have a brief overview of the history related to White Cane Awareness Day. There will be a brief overview of Human Guide Technique. Those who wish to have an experiential walk around the park outside the library will have an opportunity to travel with a guide under simulation. Pizza and soda will be served at the event

This event is in partnership with the: Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (VABVI), The State Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired (DBVI), -Barre Public Aldrich Library, Barre Rotary Club, Barre Lions Club, The ABLE Library

Bellows Falls

Location: Flat Iron Cooperative Coffee Shop, 51 The Square, Bellows Falls

When: October 15, 2025 from 10-12 a.m.

Participants of all ages and backgrounds will have the opportunity to use the white cane as they walk around The Square in downtown Bellows Falls. 

There will be an interactive discussion on the importance of white cane awareness day to honor the independence and the experiences of people who are blind or visually impaired. The event will include a reception with light refreshments. All are welcome. 

Co-sponsored by the Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the State Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired.
